Our library management system, hosted at Edinburgh University, is being upgraded next week. Services will be affected from mid afternoon on Monday 12th August - Friday 16th August. During the upgrade there will be no access to borrower records. Library staff will be able to issue books and will stockpile returns, but other services e.g. renewals, fine payments, holds and recalls, self-issue and return will not be available. There will be a snapshot version of the library catalogue available, so it will be possible to get title and location details of library stock, but availability information will not be up to date.
Library changes over the summer
Keep watching portal news for updates on the ICT Transformation Programme. It's a busy, but exciting time, with equipment being replaced and enhanced services planned as part of the Programme, as well as an upgrade to our library management system and our interlibrary loans system. Inevitably some disruption whilst all this happens, but it will be worth it!
Library users will notice a bit of disruption in the IT Training Suite and the Seminar Rooms during June. These rooms will be the first areas of the Library to have new PCs installed as part of the End-user Computing project (part of the ICT Transformation Programme).
The IT Training Suite on Level 2 will be upgraded on 10th/11th June, with Seminar Rooms A and B getting new equipment installed on 17th /18th June.
Let us know what you think of these new PCs. You should notice a marked improvement in response times compared to the current equipment in these rooms.

Remember that you can access your library record to renew books, place holds, search the catalogue, contact us, check opening hours and more on your internet-enabled phone. Go to libanywhere.com/m/787 and download the app. No need to panic now when you're lying on the beach reading and suddenly realise you didn't renew your books :)
Graduating students! Remember to return all books and clear all fines before June 14th, otherwise you will not be allowed to graduate in July.
If you have not yet registered then you have until 7th June to do so - but again all debts must be cleared first. It's worth checking your library account just to make sure you haven't racked up any overdue charges if you originally registered a while ago.
If you want to stay with us then that's great - but you need to re-register as an alumni member. It's free of charge. Apply online from http://librarymembership.abertay.ac.uk/ or ask about membershp at the Library and IT Enquiry Desk on Level 1

Free print trial
Information Services is testing a new multifunction printer. Students can print, copy or scan in colour or black and white from the test printers on Level 2 of the Library. Users with their own laptop or smartphone can email in print jobs - so no need to log on to a campus PC :) As an incentive to try them out and give us your feedback, printing and copying on the test system will be free for the duration of the trial (approximately 2 weeks). Instructions are on the display boards above the printers - or ask a member of staff for a demonstration. Please remember to leave your feedback.
Graduating students - membership update
If you have registered to graduate in July you will not be able to borrow library stock beyond 25th May 2012, when your course officially ends.
Library email notifications problem - Tuesday 3/4/12
Some library notifications (reminders, overdue notices and recalls) failed yesterday. This may result in users not getting the usual emails about books that are due back or have just become overdue.
Library environment
With exams approaching the library is very busy. Please show consideration for others by working in the most appropriate zone for your needs:
Quiet study - Level 1 - 3 and Seminar Rooms
Group study rooms - Level 3 and Level 4 (booking is advised)
Silent individual study - Level 4
Please also put rubbish in the bins provided and do not leave food and drink on the study tables when you leave. There are recycling bins for paper and plastic bottles and special bins for waste drinks to avoid spillages in the regular bins.

Online Key Note Trial
The University has a trial of online access to Key Note market research which will run from 19th March to 20th June, providing access to their database content. This will include all their Market reports, their company information interface which provides access to up to 5 years of company financial information for more than 7 million UK companies, including a ‘People Search’, and their list builder service using criteria such as SIC, turnover, number of employees and postal region. This trial is available on and off campus. Access it via the library pages. If you need any additional information about the trial please contact your Academic Librarian.
Using the lift in the Library
Staff and students - please remember that use of the lift in the Library is restricted to authorised users.
Longer opening hours
With exams looming and assessments due the Library is getting steadily busier. We'll be extending our opening hours from Monday to help students manage their workload.
